According to Greek mythology, the Pleiades were the seven daughters of the titan Atlas and the sea-nymph Pleione. The Seven Sisters roamed the earth, protected by their father, Atlas. After Atlas was condemned to carry the heavens on his shoulder, the sisters were left alone. They were pursued by the hunter Orion, who wanted his way with them. For their protection, Zeus turned the sisters into doves and they flew so high that they became the brighest stars in the Pleiades constellation.
There they are, forever shining in the night sky as nymphs in the train of Artemis, the goddess of the moon.
